Carbon monoxide (CO) is an extremely dangerous, colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can lead to potentially fatal incapacitation of a pilot even in small amounts. Deadly carbon monoxide (CO) is produced wherever fossil fuels (such as gasoline, kerosene, diesel, natural gas, and propane) are burned without sufficient oxygen.
Motor aircraft are only sometimes equipped with a CO detector, but more often than not they are overdue for replacement. This is extremely dangerous, as most commercially available CO detectors lose their protective function after a period of approximately 12 months!
